“Where you look affects how you feel.”
-Dr. David Grand, founder of Brainspotting
What is BrainSpotting?
Brainspotting is a body based intervention designed to facilitate healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, and many other issues. It may reduce the duration of therapy and produce faster results than talk therapy alone.
Through Brainspotting, people can achieve lasting healing by finding an eye position that corresponds to distressing experiences. That’s right. Where you look is attached to the activating thought, emotion, or memory that is stored in the brain and felt in the body. When you focus on the stuck thought, emotion, or memory the eyes will settle on a visual position that sparks deep processing and, ultimately, healing. And the best news? You don’t have to voice the painful experience for the intervention to be effective! At the beginning of your brainspotting session, you’ll be given headphones that play relaxing, bilateral music to enhance the intervention. Healing is an individual process, so it can be surprising, emotional, and freeing to discover your map of wounding and the wisdom of the body to heal itself.
Brainspotting is a way of helping your brain reprocess unhelpful beliefs, painful experiences, or traumatic memories. The result is greater psychological flexibility, resilience, and symptom reduction. With healing comes empowerment and greater choice over our responses to life experiences.
Here are some issues that have been successfully treated with Brainspotting:
- Trauma, abuse, and neglect
